Who we are and what we do

OneWorldStandards is an independent consultancy that supports the development and use of sustainability standards to maximise impact. It was set up by Matthew Wenban-Smith in 2006.

OneWorldStandards has led projects in a wide range of sectors including agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries, forest management, mining, protected areas, steelmaking, and sustainable tourism as well as on specific issues including biodiversity, chain of custody, green claims, greenhouse gas emissions and water stewardship.

Work can range from distinct, short term tasks – for example, to research or advise on the structure of a new standard or programme, draft standards, or make recommendations on specific business, policy or programme options – through to longer term development and advisory roles.

Clients have included the Alliance for Water Stewardship, Carbon Trust, Climate Group, Fairtrade, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), GIZ, ISEAL, the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA), IUCN, Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), Rainforest Alliance, ResponsibleSteel and WWF, amongst many others.

Take a look at our Projects page for examples of our work, and our Posts for commentaries on a range of topical issues in the world of sustainability standards.
